Serging: Getting back into the groove

Well… I’m finally back on at least one of my machines!

Check out the bag I serged below.

Serging: Art Supply Bag

Around 5:00 this morning, I realized that I had not made the Art Supply bag that I’d promised for my daughter. Art camp starts today. Ulp! Allrighty then! And so I grabbed my serger, snatched the fabric that she’d requested for the bag, measured and cut the fabric and started serging. If I wasn’t pressed for time, I would have taken pictures of the entire process. This bag is lined with the same farbric, and has side panels and a bottom. In total, it took me about 1.5 hours to complete.

Guess what? I still had time to shower, dress and prepare her lunch. Later this afternoon, I do believe I’ll add a pocket to the inside of her bag, but other than that, this bag is finished.

Sewing Inspiration – McCalls 6559

Ok… I really need to get back into the sewing groove once more. A few months ago, I’d saved McCalls 6559 to my iPhone.

To be fair, time has been a huge factor into why I have not been sewing. The teeny bit of time I do have has been spent knitting or working with paper crafts. And while both give me joy, I miss sewing…

I promptly forgot about that as I went about my activities; however, this morning I discovered the bookmark and I pulled up the pattern. Can I just say, that I love that print on the right! Oh my goodness, if I found that material, I’d be all over that.

I don’t have this pattern, but it’s given me an idea of what I’d like to see in my own sleeveless knit maxi dress.  I adore maxi dresses and skirts! I’m also going to test out Megan Nielson’s, How To Sew A Knit Neckline Binding.

The only downside is that I won’t be able to sew until next weekend. My daughter and I will be away most of the weekend and there’s absolutely no way that I’m lugging one of my machines with me. However, I will be bringing along some of my knitting and perhaps some of my beadwork also. We’ll see!

My Knit Maxi Dress

I finally got around to having a picture taken of me actually wearing the knit maxi dress that I’d sewn earlier this year. I wore it to church yesterday for our Lutheran churches God & Country celebration.

During this service, those who’ve served in the armed forces are honored through song, recognition and the sermon usually ties in. Yesterday, one of the pastors preached on “Healing for Our Nation.” I thought that was a timely message, don’t you?

I love this style so much, that I do believe I will make a few sleeveless version. It’s starting to get a little too hot to wear full sleeves.

Yes… I know my eyes are closed in the picture. Sighs…

My BF (featured in the above picture) loves this style also.

And check out the shoes. I purchased these months ago and wrote about them in my post about “wide legged pants.”  Well guess what? I finally got around to wearing them (for the first time) to church yesterday.

How to Sew…

You know… I haven’t sewed anything in weeks; but this simple video, has made me want to try to squeeze in some time to sew. Sewing is my first love after all. I started hand sewing when I was four or five and now 39+ years later, I’m still sewing…

Even if it is only for a few moments. Knitting, yes I’m still doing that almost daily; however, I miss sewing.

Spring Concert – Middle School

Last evening, was my daughter’s Middle School spring Concert. I’m including a few pictures that were taken at the house before the event.

I had planned on designing/sewing a new outfit for the event; however, I ran out of time and so I pulled out something that I had made years ago. The skirt was made by myself. The top is an example of tambour beadwork.

I did not make the top, but it is handmade. It is gorgeous. Soon, I’ll post a beaded top that I will make. Although the top is gorgeous, I don’t wear it too much, because it is black. I love color. I guess I could pair it with a colorful maxi skirt or pair of palazzo pants, right?

Dad, my daughter and me

I love this picture. Since I took it with my good camera, Nikon 80, I most likely will have this one printed and framed.

Just the three of us…

My daughter was so happy that the BF was able to attend. He lives an hour away.

Both the BF and I were super tired after busy days at work, but we were proud of the little princess.
