It’s here: Nancy’s knit knacks jumbo ball winder

Today, my jumbo yarn ball winder from Nancy’s Knit Knacks arrived, by Federal Express one day earlier!

I had five skeins of yarn that I’m using to knit the Shale baby blanket

and so I just rewound those.

Why? I love a center pull yarn cake. I didn’t use a swift. If these were hanks, then yes… I would have needed a swift or something else (arms) to keep the yarn from becoming tangled?

Novelty fabric: Disney Vicious Villain Fabric

Maleificent

This weekend, I was able to go to Jo Ann Fabric. I purchased some of the novelty fabric I’d seen online. I wasn’t able to get a lot, since there wasn’t much left, but I have enough to make a few items for my daughter. My daughter loves Maleficent so that’s the Disney print she wanted. You know what? I purchased the movie for our Amazon Fire TV, and we’ve watched it a few times.

We also saw it the day after it was released in theaters.

But back to the fabric…

With the pictures I’ve included below, you’ll notice that I make sure to include the name and where it’s been purchased. The exception would be fabric that I’ve had for years or fabric that’s been gifted to me. I post the fabric info in case someone wants to purchase it for themselves. I know there’s plenty of fabric that others have posted, that I’d love to buy, but not everyone posts the name of the fabric? If you fall under the latter category, can you please, pretty please, start listing where you purchased it and what it’s called? I’m sure many fabric lovers would appreciate that!

I purchased 1.5 yards of the above fabric

and also 1.5 yards of this…

My daughter loves both prints, but thinks it needs to be injected with a bit more color. I agree, we both love color. I don’t have the colors she wants (light pink or lilac) in my fabric stash so we’ll purchase the appropriate fabric. The leftovers can be added to her growing fabric stash.

My daughter wants to make pillows, with the above fabric, and perhaps I’ll help her make storage containers if there’s any left over. My initial plans of turning the above fabrics into a quilt are dashed since there is simply not enough fabric to accomplish to that, unless I just adds parts to a themed Disney quilt? I could add embroidered Disney panels. Hmm… perhaps, I’ll do that with a block or two.

Fabric Shaz Butterfly Circle

We also purchased this entire (unopened) bolt of fabric for my daughter’s fabric stash! It’s eight (8) yards and was 50% off! I only paid $27.92, plus tax.

All the fabric purchased is 100% cotton.

Of course, once the fabric arrived home, it went through my standard procedure; the raw edges were sewn with my Coverstitch machine, and all the fabric was tossed into the washer/dryer. Once finished the fabric was pressed, folded and tucked away into my daughter’s fabric stash bin.

She can’t wait to start sewing some fun projects for herself. I believe for her first project, she wants to make pajamas. I’ll be around to give her tips. I might set up my machine near hers, so I can be there to assist as she sews. Doing this will still give me the opportunity to sew maxi knit dress.

News Years Eve & first order from Mood Fabric is here…

It’s New Years Eve!

My daughter is behind me playing a game and I just logged off Mood Fabric, after saving fabric into my shopping cart.

Speaking of fabric…. remember that glorious cotton batiste, that I was raving about? You know, the Orange Floral Cotton Batiste? Well, it arrived today! I’ll be sure to post my pictures of the fabric and compare to what’s shown on the site and post all the delightful things that came along with my purchase. It’s safe to say, that I will be ordering from them again!

This year has come and gone so quickly and I have so much to be thankful for. I’m looking forward to 2015 and whatever it may bring.

Happy New Years Eve!

Purchased fabric/accessories on Black Friday

This morning, shortly after 6:00 a.m., my daughter and I were at JoAnn Fabric store. We were taking advantage of their Black Friday Sale.  As I already mentioned, this the first time that I’ve been to a store on Black Friday.

These days, I rarely purchase fabric from JoAnn, most of my fabric shopping is completed online. However, there’s a Middle School dance coming up next Saturday and I did not  feel like taking a chance on getting a package that might not arrive on time.

I didn’t feel like drafting a pattern for my daughter, so she looked through the pattern books and chose the above pattern. Besides, working from a commercial pattern will give her a feel for what that is like and it help her in making sizing adjustments.

This fabric shimmers, my daughter is loving it a lot!

Here’s the fabric that she chose. She then reminded me that she wanted a lace bolero top to accompany the dress

and so she choose this.

Here’s a closer shot of the lace, with it spread out so you can see the design a bit better. I’ve never been overly crazy about the lace offered at JoAnn’s, but my daughter likes it a lot so as long as she’s happy that’s what matters, right?

She wasn’t the only one that purchased material though. They had Christmas themed fabric in the 70% off bin and I allowed myself one selection.

Look, it’s Charlie Brown! I’ve always loved the Charlie Brown Christmas movies. I did notice that this  Charlie Brown print is devoid of any Christmas sayings. Perhaps that is why it was marked down so low? It’s not something I’m overjoyed about myself. But I’m guessing someone thought this would be a great way to avoid the risk stepping on anyone’s overly sensitive toes.

Notions 11.28.14

Besides fabric, I still needed to purchase a few additional sewing notions and I purchased what you see above. These notions along with the items that should be coming from Amazon tomorrow will keep me in accessories heaven for a long time.

We were in the store for about an hour and the majority of that time was spent waiting for our ticket to be called so we could get our fabric measured and cut. Yes, it really was that crowded in the fabric store less than 15 minutes after it opened. People were lined up with carts filled with fabric. Apparently there were some awesome fabric deals going on and that’s not surprising, after all… it is Black Friday!

Black Horsehair Braid
Black Horsehair Braid

Oh… I did have to order one thing online for my daughter’s dress. Horsehair braid! I ordered it from Wawak, based on their turnaround time, it should be here within a few days.

A few hours after arriving home, I serged the raw fabric edges and then washed and dried the fabric. This is standard procedure for any fabric that enters this home and yes that includes dry clean only fabric also.
