Workout top…

Well here is one of my latest Serging creations, a workout top.

My daughter took the photo this morning, when I was getting ready to start dressing for work. This is about the only ‘drab’ top I made. The others are bright and colorful.

I’ll let you in on a secret… instead of the ‘traditional bra,’ I use sports bras and workout tops for ‘support.’

20+ years later, I’m still wearing this…

These pictures were taken yesterday, right before I took my daughter to the Middle School dance at our Lutheran church.

My lovely daughter and me

You see the polka dot dress I’m wearing?

I dislike taking pictures, but I wanted to show how the dress matches my shoes!

I made that dress in my early twenties. I think I might have been 22? Fast forward 22 years later and the dress still fits.

The dress is a perfect match for those shoes I purchased, right?

This dress, was one of the first knit dresses I made successfully on my standard sewing machine. For some reason, I feared knits and avoided them like the plague. Okay… maybe there was a reason. In my teens, my first attempts at making something with stretchy knit fabric did not go very well. I shudder thinking about those leggings I attempted to make.

The past few weeks have been incredibly busy and so while I had every attempt to sew, that wasn’t happening! Which explains why my daughter’s dress (shown in the above picture) was purchased instead of being sewn by me. Sighs… Oh well, the Middle School concert is coming up at her Lutheran school. I have two weeks to design/sew a dress for her. I should be able to start sewing this coming weekend.

Completed dresses: McCalls 6612 – Knit Maxi Dress

I finally am getting around to posting pictures of the dresses that I’ve created. It’s McCalls 6612. Hopefully, the next picture, will actually show me wearing them.

While it might not look like they’re fitted they really are. The above, is the first one that I actually wore.

However, this is the one I actually started sewing first, but did not complete until last weekend. I only needed to add the hem to the sleeves and hem. This is my favorite and it’s what I wore to church this past Sunday.

Take a look inside my closet. Please excuse the floor, I am still cleaning, it should be finished by today. I can’t remember if I mentioned that I gave away a lot of my garments to Purple Heart. I hadn’t made most of the ones I donated.

It’s looking lonely in there, right? There are only three outfits in that closet, but they were all made by me! I’m really thrilled that I came up with this idea, since seeing an almost bare closet really forces me to start working myself back into the sewing equation.

Of course, I’m wearing more than these three outfits; however, they are mainly pants and a few skirts all garments that I don’t like too much.

What will I sew next?

I’m actually thinking about making my own version of the Vogue pattern that I’m showing below.

Isn’t it gorgeous? I’d make the tea length version. Although with the chilly temperatures we’ve been having, sleeveless outfits aren’t high on my priority list.

Stay Classy…

Wow, the weeks have been flying by! Of course, that means I have not had a chance to do much writing on my personal sites. I am really missing doing that and also visiting my favorite bloggers.

Even though I have not had a lot of personal time to write, I have made the time to create a few outfits using the cowl neck knit maxi dress pattern that I purchased. I made a few modifications, but am loving the two knit maxi dresses that I have made. You know something? I’ve received a lot of compliments about them. I wore the first to a banquet I attended with my boyfriend a few weeks ago, and I finally wore the last one to church this past Sunday. I was visiting my boyfriends church.

I adore cowl necks and am planning to make a few shirts within the next few months. I’m hoping to draft the patterns for the cowl neck shirts sometime this week.

I’m also planning a Sunday outfit. My daughter and I have an Easter dinner to attend next week and since it’s the boyfriends family I thought we’d do something special.

McCalls 6612: Knit Maxi Dress

Oh my goodness has it been busy, but I am happy to say that I have made one dress and am almost completed another. I will say it was a quick turnaround since I completed most of them within one day.

Instead of drafting my own pattern, I chose to use McCalls 6612. What drew my eye? The cowl neck. I’ve always loved those. I did make a few mods, mine is a bit more fitted than what is featured on the envelope sleeve and I will be adding a lining. Additionally, I’ve decided to make a cowl neck shirt and so I most likely will create my shirt pattern some time today.

Rave reviews

If you remember, I said I was making this outfit for an upcoming banquet. Well, that event was held this past Saturday, and I must say that I had a really great time.

Gold velveteen fabric

See the fabric above? That’s the material I chose for the banquet. The patterned material was a bit too dressy for this event. I will say it was a great choice. I received compliments on my outfit from my date, and others, mentioned that they really loved the outfit I made. I wore it to the annual banquet that he invited me too. I even purchased a nice pair of shoes and a nice purse to match.

I’ll be sure to post pictures some time this week.
