Knitted shorts?

I always thought knitted shorts would be super comfortable. Yesterday, while checking out Amanda of Monkey’s are my Friends website, I struck gold. I found some super comfy knitted shorts to make for myself. Score!

After she revealed the knitting pattern, I eagerly logged onto Ravelry and checked out her project page, downloaded the pattern for myself. You can download it too. It’s called, Assets of Evo and it’s free! Most of my knitting patterns have been purchased. After I downloaded the pattern, I checked out the finished knitted shorts made by others. Based on the reviews I read from those who completed these shorts, she wasn’t the only one raving about how comfortable they are. I think I’ll knit my shorts a little bit longer and these will be my comfy shorts I wear around the house. They look so comfortable, I would not be surprised if I made more! The only thing left to do is purchase the yarn. I’m thinking a wool superwash and perhaps in variegated colors. I want yarn that is colorful and bright.

I can’t wait to knit these for myself, but first I must knit a hat for my daughter and while I’m at it, I’ll sew a few hats for her too. She loves them. This past May, my daughter turned 12 years old.

..and still more knitted washcloths

Whew… my posts have been sporadic and lately they’ve been all about knitting. Sighs, I look fondly at my sewing machines and beadwork; however, at the moment, I simply do not have the time.

But knitting is different… it’s portable and can accompany me almost anywhere. This past weekend, we were visiting the BF’s parents in Bridgeville, Delaware. During our down time I was able to complete one more knitted washcloth, which is not shown here.

I love hand knit washcloths and so does my BF.

The above washcloths were gifted to the BF last week. Yesterday, he finally got around to sending me the pictures he’d taken. In the above photo, the accompanying text was… “To my heart of hearts!” Later, when chatting with him on the phone, he asked me what I thought about his “heart display.” I had no idea what he was referring to until he explained he tried to arrange the knitted washcloths in a heart pattern. I went back, and saw the heart formation. How sweet was that.

These washcloths are still made using 100% cotton; however, I used a different brand that seems softer. This morning, my BF finally got around to trying one of the new washcloths and told me they are amazing! It looks like we have a keeper. I’ll make a few more knitted washcloth sets for his home and then I’ll focus on another project.

More knitting than anything…

Yes, I’m still here and I’m still staying creative; however, recently most of my crafting has been focused on knitting. Yes… I’ve been making more knitted washcloths!

Have you ever used a knitted washcloth? If not, you’re missing out! Granted the type of yarn you use has a lot to do with its awesomeness. You want something that is absorbent, which is why I only use non mercerized cotton. Mercerized cotton aren’t as absorbant. It “finishes” the cotton and blocks the cottons natural natural absorbancy. That’s definitely not what I want in a washcloth or a dishcloth.

Speaking of knitted cloths… I mainly use the moss or seed stitch. Whenever I’ve gifted my knitted washcloths to others, even the skeptics, have raved about how great they are. The most recent raver is the BF. This past weekend I made him one and told him to try it when he bathed. Well guess what? He raved about how well it felt on his skin and the lather it produced. The stitch used helped produce a lot of lather. Yes… it’s safe to say that he’s sold on my knitted washcloths.

Moscow Nights Tea Towels
Loom woven towels – Moscow Nights. I did not make these, but I will be soon.

Look at the above towels, aren’t they gorgeous? It’s called the Moscow Nights Towels. The BF thinks they are too gorgeous to use. I’ll definitely be using them once they are made. Once we are married, I’ll be sure to flood our home with numerous hand crafted items that I’ve made. He’s already getting a taste of what’s in store for him and he loves those items. Yes… he’s a keeper!

Anyway, the above towels, were featured in the March/April 2015 – Handwoven magazine. Yes… these were made with a loom. It’s a good thing, I have one of those, right?

These loom woven towels, definitely takes towels to a much higher level, don’t you think? Since I adore the colors used, I’ll be purchasing the Moscow Nights Towel kit This will be a project, that I’ll save for the cooler months. Speaking of which, in a few weeks, I’ll be starting to knit an afghan. If I work on it now, it should be finished in time for the cooler months.

Malabrigo yarn
Malabrigo yarn – It’s incredibly soft and squishy!

I’m still deciding on the yarn to use; however, it most definitely will be wool and the brand will most likely be Malabrigo. Oh, how I love that yarn. It’s amazing, soft and I want to dive in a huge pile of its squishy softness. I’ll be using their washable wool yarn and so, that’s going to be a pricey afghan. I’m seriously thinking of using the moss stitch for the afghan and perhaps my size 10 Hiya Hiya Sharps Circulars. We’ll see…

My daughter, BF and I will be visiting his parents the weekend of the 12th. I’m hoping that I have a chance to make a few nice summery dresses. A casual and something dressy, since I believe we’ll be attending church with them.

Knitting: Another Dishcloth…

Wow, where has the time gone? I’ve been wanting to sew; however, actually getting that accomplished has been extremely elusive. If I could only stop time for a bit, then I’d manage to get a lot of my *Me time* activities completed.

And while I did not have time to sew, I did have time to make the above knitted dishcloth. When I don’t have time to sew, knitting is my favorite “go to” project. This knitted dishcloth is made from cotton yarn, so it’s super absorbent.

I knitted this while my daughter and I were visiting the BF. The BF is really fascinated with knitting and has spent a large amount of time, watching my fingers fly with my Hiya Hiya Sharps. I told him if he washes this a few times, it will be super absorbent, which will make it perfect for cleaning up spills and wiping down kitchen surfaces.

Knitting: Checkered Hat

While it might seem that I only sew, I don’t. There are other crafts that I equally enjoy, such as knitting.

Last evening, while hanging with the BF, I pulled out my size 3 Hiya Hiya needles and started knitting a checkered hat. He and his dog, were really fascinated with the process and watched, for a bit, as my needles swiftly added stitches to the hat.

It’s only the beginning, so you really can’t see the contrast between the knit and purl stitches yet… but that will change as I progress.
