This is one of her favorite knits…

Although this is an old hat, it’s one of my daughter’s favorites that I knitted for her about four years. She wears it constantly. I told her this hat needed to be upgraded.

I’ve been knitting since I was eight; however, I didn’t venture into cables until about four years ago. This was one of my first successful cable knitted projects. Bonus points, that my daughter loved it so much!

The above photos were taken yesterday, a few hours after visiting the BF’s Roman Catholic church. The above picture is a sign that my daughter was happy.

She loves to lay on her stomach and relax. She’s my daughter. I do the same thing.

Knitting: From a hat to a tube…

Originally, this started out as a knitted hat,

but somewhere along the way that’s changed. I decided to make it into a dreadlock tube.

My little collection of the dreadlock tubes that I’ve knitted.

Over the past several months, I’ve knitted six (red wool dreadlock tube isn’t shown here) but I believe the one I’m knitting now will be my favorite since it is so colorful! You see the fabric in the background? It’s a jersey knit, I’ll be making either a long maxi skirt, or perhaps a dress out of that material. Guess what? The fabric matches some of the colors in the dreadlock tube that I’m knitting.

I wear my hair in dreadlock tubes quite often. My locs are very long (down to my waist.) I’ve been growing my hair out for about eight years, so yeah… they have some serious length! At times I just want to wrap them up and get them off my shoulders. Why? My locs are heavy.

I thought this was a pretty combination

Some might be curious on how you wear a dreadlock tube. Take a look at the above picture. No, that’s not me, but it’s how I wear my tubes. The tubes give my hair a break, all that weight hanging down my back can be annoying at times. I think I’ll add a few more inches to this tube. Because the longest one that I’ve already knitted, simply isn’t long enough to contain all my hair.  As I mentioned in an earlier post, this rib stitch (k2, p2) is my favorite rib stitch.

I’m hoping to finish knitting this latest dreadlock tube, this weekend. We’ll see…

Mindless knitting… it’s not always about sewing

Last evening, I picked up my beloved Hiya Hiya needles and continued knitting this simple ribbed hat. I enjoy knitting and my favorite no brainer stitch would be the ribbed stitch.

With this hat, I used (k2, p2) which is easy, and fits comfortably when you don’t want to spend time looking at your stitches. My daughter finds the soft clicking on my stainless steel Hiya Hiya needles to be very soothing and I must say that I like it also. Also, with this stitch, I don’t have to look at my needles while I’m stitching.

The yarn used is Malabrigo yarn. This yarn is incredibly soft and about the only type of wool that I can wear without itching. Malabrigo comes from the wool of merino sheep.

This evening, I plan to get do a bit more knitting, while hanging out with my daughter. We’ll most likely watch something on the Amazon Fire TV. I really would like to finish watching The Woman In Black, I’ve added it to my watchlist and have watched some of it… but have been much too busy with sewing and hanging with my daughter to watch it completely.

 In other news…

I finally finished sewing my embroidered top and I’m wearing it today at work!
