Stay Classy…

Wow, the weeks have been flying by! Of course, that means I have not had a chance to do much writing on my personal sites. I am really missing doing that and also visiting my favorite bloggers.

Even though I have not had a lot of personal time to write, I have made the time to create a few outfits using the cowl neck knit maxi dress pattern that I purchased. I made a few modifications, but am loving the two knit maxi dresses that I have made. You know something? I’ve received a lot of compliments about them. I wore the first to a banquet I attended with my boyfriend a few weeks ago, and I finally wore the last one to church this past Sunday. I was visiting my boyfriends church.

I adore cowl necks and am planning to make a few shirts within the next few months. I’m hoping to draft the patterns for the cowl neck shirts sometime this week.

I’m also planning a Sunday outfit. My daughter and I have an Easter dinner to attend next week and since it’s the boyfriends family I thought we’d do something special.

McCalls 6612: Knit Maxi Dress

Oh my goodness has it been busy, but I am happy to say that I have made one dress and am almost completed another. I will say it was a quick turnaround since I completed most of them within one day.

Instead of drafting my own pattern, I chose to use McCalls 6612. What drew my eye? The cowl neck. I’ve always loved those. I did make a few mods, mine is a bit more fitted than what is featured on the envelope sleeve and I will be adding a lining. Additionally, I’ve decided to make a cowl neck shirt and so I most likely will create my shirt pattern some time today.

Rave reviews

If you remember, I said I was making this outfit for an upcoming banquet. Well, that event was held this past Saturday, and I must say that I had a really great time.

Gold velveteen fabric

See the fabric above? That’s the material I chose for the banquet. The patterned material was a bit too dressy for this event. I will say it was a great choice. I received compliments on my outfit from my date, and others, mentioned that they really loved the outfit I made. I wore it to the annual banquet that he invited me too. I even purchased a nice pair of shoes and a nice purse to match.

I’ll be sure to post pictures some time this week.

Sewing inspiration for my maxi dress

Long maxi dressHere’s my maxi dress inspiration for the upcoming banquet. In fact, I have one similar to this in my closet, but it has long sleeves. The dress, in my closet, is made out of gorgeous muted gold colored knit fabric. I’ve had that dress since my early twenties and it sill fits beautifully.

Because it’s still fuh–reezing outside! This will outfit will be long sleeve. Early this morning, as in around 1:30 a.m., I picked out the fabric that I would use. Tonight, I’ll cut out the material and hopefully start sewing.

I have a basic pattern that I made quite a while ago and so I’ll just use that for this dress. This should be a quick sew, but perhaps I should keep my mouth shut about that, to keep the sewing gremlins at bay.

Upcoming banquet…

About a week ago, a close friend invited me to a banquet. Do you know how long I’ve attended such an event? It’s been a long time. Last evening, while chatting with him, I asked him what was the dress code. He said, “Oh, it’s very casual!” He’s wearing a nice pair of jeans and a business casual top.

So now, I’m racking my brain to see what I’d like to wear? I don’t want to be too casual! Should I make a maxi skirt or pants with a complimentary top? Well, I’m going to think about it for another day and then I’ll pull out the selected fabric, measure, cut and start sewing. After all, March 7 is right around the corner!

I’ll be sure to post pictures once whatever I make is completed. 😉

Finally easing back into sewing

I am thrilled to say that I’m finally starting to sew again. It’s Sunday, but our little community is frozen and the roads are covered with snow and a thin sheet of ice, so there’s no way I’m even attempting to go out to attend church. What’s hilarious is that we only got a few inches of snow, but it’s so icy too. My daughter is still sleeping (which is unheard of, she’s usually awake by 7:00 a.m.) I think, sewing would be a great way to spend a few hours, don’t you?

Even though I have not been sewing, I have been staying in the mix thanks to the lovely sewing inspired blogs I read. I’m also a member of a few forums and some Facebook pages. Mimi G’s posts normally catch my eye.

Take for example, her recent post about the red hot dress. You can purchase Red hot dress aka Valentines’ Day Dress tutorial (.pdf pattern and instructions) for $12.99. Well, she had me at red, since I adore that color. We also have similar tastes when it comes to how we dress. Also, she’s short just like me. I’m 5′, I’m unsure how short she is. Her figure is similar to mine. However, I’m a bit more muscular than she is. Her recent post has inspired me to create a cute maxi dress for myself. I won’t make my neckline as low, but I’m keeping those sleeves. I love them.
